My second D-Day !!

Hi everyone!! So finally its over....I m free now...at least mentally...I know many ppl want to know in details how did the interview n the GD go...so here's for those who are preparing for CAT or are just interested....

Details of my IIM Lucknow interview process:

Our selection process started with us being called into a room where we were asked to sit in a semicircular manner...the examiners (A Lady n a Man) were sitting at the centre position from where they could observe us all...they gave us our GD topic...on which we had to write an essay (150 words max) in 10 mins n then discuss it right away...

TOPIC: "Peace and harmony can exist only as long as there is a threat of violence".

Since the topic was quite general, the GD became a complete mess...everybody was speaking simultaneously...no one was interested in listening to wat others were saying...I had to really struggle before i could start...but the gud part was ....every time I started nobody spoke for the next 15-20 seconds n they listened....then again everyone started simultaneously...in between i also interrupted the GD where I asked everyone "to go in a more structured manner so that everyone gets to speak their point...as we had enough time"...everyone agreed...then they again they started all together....

They didn’t ask us to conclude the GD ...he just asked us to stop abruptly...everyone came up with gud points (i know because I was listening)...but no one else was...

Then came the turn for interview(...of course after a round of snacks)...I was the sixth one....there were all sort of guys...even ppl with 6 yrs of experience in gud managerial positions in the company (don’t know why he wanted to do an MBA)...his interview lasted only 2-3 mins...they had nothing to ask to him...

One very important thing that i noticed was that in Bangalore the same performance will result in lower marks (as I perceive it)...coz at least on communication front u'll not find a single person who struggles to speak...everyone was quite gud in communication skills n most of them had an impressive personality...so that makes u outperforming others very difficult....

I am writing here the interview in as much details as i can remember (L stands for Lady Interviewer, M for male interviewer)...

As soon as I entered:

L: So Ruchika, how many girls are sitting outside?
Me: One

L: Only u?
Me: No, one other than me

L: Why do u think this is happening?
Me: Probably b'coz very few girls take the initiative of pursuing higher education. In India...the girls develop low expectations from themselves...

L: Is that the reason? I don’t think so.
Me: Mam, at least wat I've seen in my institute the girls to boys ratio is very low...

L: how many girls are there in ur class?
Me: 5

L: out of...
Me: 41

L: Ohhh...that's very low...how many girls in all in ur batch??
Me:23

L: Out of...
Me:450

M: How much is that in percentage?
Me: about 5 %
L: Ohhh thats very low...n u r from IT BHU..
Me: Yes
L: n that’s quite a prestigious institute...
Me: Yes

L: But we are talking abt women empowerment etc...then where is the empowerment
Me: The empowerment we are talking abt is as compared to the past...but if we see today we are still lagging behind...

L: Can u tell me any field where women are doing really well...
Me: (After a lil' thinking) Nowhere...infact women are doing quite well everywhere be it as managers or engineers or doctors...but again, they are doing well as compared to the past there's still a lot of scope for improvement.

L: Wat do u think is the way out...do u think we should give them more reservations..
Me: No mam...i don not think that is the right way out...

L: No, u dont think so??
Me: No, i think reservations don’t help as long as their is a change at the grassroot level

Hi guys ...this is where it ends..... not the interview...but my written description coz now its 10 days since i started writing that...n now i really don’t feel like discussing the interview anymore...a lot has happened since then...i attended the S P Jain interview...n lemme tell u ..these guys are gud for nothing...dont plan to join the institute under any circumstances...really...got very frustrated on the interview day...was called at 8 in the morning...while my interview happened at 7 in the evening...bloody______....anyways...i cleared the first round of interviews...results awaited for the second round...plus my MDI interview is scheduled on 22nd March in Gurgaon...Hey that's my B'Day too....lets see if they let me celebrate it...anyways guys see u very soon this time.....byeeeeeeeeee

No time for celebrations !!

Hi guys....so much has happened since I wrote my last post....I got my 1000th visitor, Mr. Arun Tangri...I request him to write a guest post on my blog, “Plsssssss will u do it”.

Also I got a call from IIM-Lucknow. Now that’s something I should have told much earlier, but I was busy collecting all the ‘CONGRATS !!’ n ‘ BEST OF LUCK’...now that its finally settling down a bit, I was reminded that my blog is missing me...n probably it deserved some celebration...so I thought ‘oki...I’ll give it some celebration’...Lets see when...

First of all, I m leaving for XAT in some minutes. (Allahabad)

Secondly, I’ve got my FMS exam on 15th Jan. (Kanpur)

Thirdly, I’ve to attend 2 day campaign on GD/PI by Career Launcher on 21-22 Jan. (Delhi)

Fourthly, I’ve to take my IIML interview on 20th Feb. (Bangalore)

Now in between all these exams n their preparation I’ve my mid term exams in the college.

So I guess u understand....NO TIME FOR CELEBRATIONS !!!!!......

Hey guys...i m back...u know I had planned that once CAT is over I’ll have all the time to update my blog regularly...but no it didn’t happen that way...or rather I grew lazy n u know how long that kept me away from my blog...earlier I was searching for something to write, something straight from my heart. Now, I’ve found it n I know how to articulate it...so u can expect the blog to be functional once again n I hope u’ll be there too.

Oki now first of all I must tell u wat I’d been doing all these days...

First I went to my home; n let me tell u this was the first time in the four years that I loved being there so much. I was actually feeling depressed when I came back. Yes things do change with time n sometimes they get better.

Second I watched a lot of TV which I had not done in these four years. I’d like to discuss it in details in my coming articles.

Third the struggle of a modern Indian girl with the traditional Indian matrimony system has started. Although we had this Cold War going on since the day I decided that I’ll marry by my own choice but I feel I’ll need to come out in open very soon if my dear relatives continue to interfere in my life.

Fourth the CAT result is killing me... its not out yet...n it seems its never gonna be...I just come to my room every day thinking it may be out, but every time ‘Not yet’. Hah, I don’t feel like doing anything...pls pls finish the mystery fast.

Fifth the news is driving me crazy. The sense of security is all gone n I cant help wondering Why?...anyways there are so many things I’ve to say...just wait its coming in details...

CAT paper – the nightmare comes true

So...finally...it came n it went.....the day that I had been waiting for since the last two years...i m sure u ppl r eager to know how did I perform...lemme start with more basics (i m sure most of u must be knowin but still)...

This year the paper consisted of 90 questions...30 in each section with 20 carrying two marks n 10 carrying 1 marks...the difficulty level for all the sections was much higher than any of the papers in the last 10 yrs...n it gave almost everyone gud tiring 2 hrs when all they could think of was that their nightmare had come true....

Anyways i m under a very tragic situation with the greatest minds of India clashing...I went through the answer key provided by Professional Tutorials(PT), Career Launcher(CL) and IMS. The idea of sectional cutoffs is almost the same with 20-21 in English, 14-15 in Quant, 10-11 in Data Interpretation and 48-50 the overall cutoff, and there is complete agreement for the answer key for DI and QA section. But the harmony ends over there and the tragedy begins.......

For the answers in English section, the answer key for Career launcher, for Professional Tutorial and IMS (n probably TIMES which I haven’t checked) all give three different sets. That is if according to CL answer is (A), PT says its (B) and IMS (C).

Probably u'll understand it better when i tell u my case ... I've managed to clear the cutoff in QA (15.33) and DI (13.33). In English i m scoring 16 according to CL and 22.66 according to PT. That makes my total to 44.66 or 51.33. That is a difference of 6.66 marks. If u consider how important is every mark in a competitive exam is, it is a difference of all the calls or no calls. Anythin may happen.
(All this is based on the assumption that the cutoff predictions by these institutes are correct)

Anyways...I’ve done my part, rest I leave on the results. But, this makes me ask a very basic question: When the (supposedly) best experts in India on the English section are so confused regarding the answers and their explanations, how does the examiner suppose that we the students are to answer it correctly? Its sheer luck.

Anyways guys...now that its over I’ve all the time to play now n watch movies ...but wait there's IIFT exam on this Sunday n I've to rush back to Allahabad.....n the end sems are starting day after tomorrow.....Oh heck.........

Hi everyone...the busy season is here...n it suddenly seems that everybody has stopped posting on their blog esp me...anyways I had gone to Kanpur for Suvi's marriage...the first in our group to get married...

Something is about to end

This is the first realization of that inevitable end that very soon i m goin to face...the end of my college life. It started with this diwali pooja when we started dscussing how we've been celebrating diwali for the last four years on the same pattern...n this'd b our last diwali here...n there r gonna b so many 'lasts' in the next six months...u know it was diwali when i'd found my love for the first time...ooooooooooooohhh...how i m goin to miss it all...but this diwali was wonderful...u know we'd decorated our lobbies with rows of diyas..n it looked amazing....there were diyas all over in both the lobbies ...on the stair case...even in the bathrooms...n that was the only light...i'll put up the snaps once i get them...okiiii....byeeee for now....luv u all

Hi everyone...it's diwali time !! This is the time of year that always finds me in higly exuberant mood, however drab the plans for the day may be... so for those who r enjoying the fest at their homes 'Have a great time !!' n for those like me who r here away from their home, some tips from me to make ur diwali enjoyable n perfect:

Get up all u lazy people, go out do some shoppin for urself. Make it a bit festival specific. Get some diya, flowers n dont forget Lai-Batashe.

Clean ur room, get into the festival mood.

Dont just satisfy urself by goin to a temple, arrange ur own pooja with ur friends. For those who r planning to do so, here are the tips:

Get a ganesh parvati idol
Today on dhanteras u light 1 diya, tomorrow on Roop Teras/Chhoti diwali 11 diya, n on Diwali 21
Also get some flowers if u can
Sing whatever prayer u know, n in the end distribute lai-batashe with aarti.

Wear the best of ur clothes n go out have gud dinner

Do not abstain from crackers, get some blast n u r goin to love it. (I think there radiation others who'll give u tips on safety measures)

Last tip (exclusively for galzz): On diwali nite, before sleeping make some fresh kajal by keeping an inverted spoon on ghee ka diya. Use it n it'll make ur eyes shine for the rest of the year.

Try to follow them n believe me u'll feel completely at home...Its a festival of light n love, live it the way it is meant to be...

Some inferences

Thanks everyone for reading the article below...i've been able to infer the following from the responses I received (n if u r doubtful read the responses on the post below).

There are three major categories of people:

Women who think all men are pigs (n no doubt they r given enough reasons to believe so by the people in second category. They believe in it, they r scared of it n they never get out of it)

Men who think all men are pigs (they complement the above category n r highly critical of any attempt by anyone to justify the existence men in the third category)

Men n Women who believe gud n bad is not the decided by person's sex only in fact u find the characteristics neatly distributed in both the groups.

I m delighted that I was able to bring forward ppl from all categories to comment. For those who think that the article below was written on the prejudice of sex being an evil phenomenon...that's absolutely not the case.

I don't expect the change to come in a day neither do I think that this is an easy one...but yes, being a die-hard optimist, I still think it can n it will.

Cursed by birth

I would recommend all the girls to read this article by Jyothirllata Girija, in Hindu Open Page (October 9). This article has been an eye opener for me. It made me realize that we may unknowingly have been 'doing the worst disservice a woman could do to men in general, and to herself in particular'. I never realized that most modern dresses are so indecorous as to 'make even decent men indecent'. I dont understand what kind of decent men is she talking about who are forced to rape a girl coz she may be wearing a revealing dress. And I dont understand why rape is such a stigma for the victim while the perpetrator breathes free.

The article is disgusting not only coz it makes all the women feel 'cursed by birth' but also its very unfair to all those men whom she demonizes to every extent possible, blames them to be 'born as such' and advices the girls not to 'add fuel to the (already) burning fire'. Sure there are a lot of problems that a woman has to face but not every man is bad and let us not alienate those unbiased people by deliberately passing such statements.

Now this reminds me a very important lesson in my life. Every person is responsible for his own fate. People pls stop blaming men for women's pathetic condition. Lets remind ourselves that still exists a majority of woman (like our dear author) who call themselves 'feminist' and still endorse the ideology of woman as sex object. The solution is not to cover urself at all the possible places, and to maintain distance from every man, but to change the image of a woman. Before talking about our rights and freedom, let us be convinced of our images in our own minds. Once we are sure that 'yes, we deserve respect' can only we command it. Not calling urself a feminist and not demanding special privileges can be the best thing u can do. The word privilege has an inherent bias in it. Avoid it.

Alienation between the sexes doesnt protect u, instead makes u more vulnerable. I remember the time when I joined IT BHU. During the ragging sessions we had heard so many horror stories abt IT BHU guys from our dear seniors that we felt they are goin to rape us at any slightest provocation. The word 'sexy' used to be a taboo. Wearing sleeveless was unimaginable. Visiting Limbdi Corner was prohibited for gals. But things have changed so much since then. Not only did we discover that the guys are not at all bad, but possibly they r the best companions we can get. The alienation only helps in building distrust. Once u start mingling, its only helps in building better understanding. Now only a normal day u can find gals n boys freely hanging out, sleeveless is a very normal outfit, in fact the gals are much more confident to go out in skirts. If somebody wears sleeveless for the first time it creates hype, but slowly it gets normal n people stop minding it.

Its always a good approach to cure the cause rather than run away from it. Identify the problems properly before passing ur judgment based on the century old prejudices.

Gud CGPA vs Gud Engineer

I read this article (mentioned on Animesh Pathak's online Journal) regarding the study correlating school performance and engineering performance. Quiet interesting.

Before I present my views I'd like to point out that the study has been done by 'IIT Home' an organisation that till last year was very well known to drop the students from their classes if they refused to quit CBSE and take admission in State Board (Maharashtra)(with whom they had made some special arrangements), coz they believed that in CBSE the student will be required to attend the classes and hence it'll hamper their JEE preps. U can see how contradictory is the study from the basic ideology of the organization.

Secondly, i think ( n all those who have been in these reputed institutes will agree) that gud CGPA doesnt necessarily guarantee a gud engineer...many of the students with average or poor CGPA are known to do very well in their engineering profession or as an entrepreneur. The profession is so dynamic in nature that just the theoretical knowledge is too weak to tackle with the actual problems. It requires much more. Before jumping to conclusions we must be clear how do we define a gud engineer. Is CGPA the only criterion?

I'd like to give u my personal example. I scored 92.2 in my high school CBSE exam with 95.66 in PCM. My CGPA can at best be defined as average. But I do not consider myself a failure as an engineer. It was just the way things are taught over here...it has been unable to get me interested. Same is the case with many more students, who in no way are intellectually inferior from the toppers. May be before passing on a judgment on the students n their abilities the administration should take some time for introspection. There is a lot more scope for improvement there. And even then if the students fail to perform, they should probably get back to them.

Hi!! so i m finally on blog... pouring my heart out...lemme tell u my reason of starting it.

I m very lazy when it comes to writing...but now i've decided to be a gud girl n write regularly though i m not sure exactly wat. Lemme share with u wat i plan to do with it...

This'll help me in expressing my views n also preparing for some MBA entrance exams. I'll be writing n rewriting some articles. Pls help me in refining them.
